Children Finding Hope

At just ten years old, Tapos escaped a violent home life to find himself alone on the streets of Kolkata. What followed were years of struggle and survival. Today, he’s transformed his painful past into purpose by creating a haven for children who face the same hardships he once did.

What began as one man’s healing journey has become a powerful mission of hope. Shoishob now serves as a refuge for children in extreme poverty, offering them a chance to escape the chaos of street life and discover their potential.

From Pain to Purpose

“I see these kids, and I see myself,” Tapos says. “They remind me that no one is beyond hope. If God could change my life, He can change theirs too.”

Alongside his wife Sona, who shares his heart for vulnerable children, Tapos leads the shelter with remarkable compassion and unwavering faith. Together, they’re building a legacy of love that continues to transform lives.

Every day, approximately 22 children come to Shoishob where they receive practical help: baths, nutritious meals, and educational tutoring. But the most powerful transformation happens through consistent relationship.

“The most impactful and life-changing thing that we do is constantly showing up in their lives and showing the love of God to them,” Tapos explains. “The practical needs have led to an open door to their hearts.”

Children Finding Hope

Each child at Shoishob carries a unique story of hardship but also holds immense promise. Through patience and steady care, Tapos helps them discover their own voice and potential.

Prakash and Bikash, two brothers, were found begging on the streets, desperately trying to earn just enough for a single day’s meal. Life had taught them only instability, making school adjustment nearly impossible. But with steady support from the shelter, they no longer need to beg. Their mother has found employment, and they’re now catching up in their studies, finally experiencing stability.

Then there’s Sohini, a bright and compassionate girl living under the heavy burden of poverty. Her mother works exhausting hours in a tea shop, carrying the family’s needs on her shoulders. Despite these obstacles, Sohini excels as the top student in her class and always remains ready to help others.

“She amazes me,” Tapos says. “She has so much potential, and she reminds me why this work matters.”

A Safe Place to Grow

Not every story is straightforward. Many children arrive at the shelter deeply wounded by their experiences. Some struggle to trust adults. Others display aggression, reflecting the only way they’ve learned to survive.

But Tapos understands their journey in a way few others can because he lived it himself.

For most of these children, Shoishob represents the first consistent place of rest and stability they’ve ever known. Every day includes not only practical care but also moments of spiritual nurturing, with worship and Bible lessons becoming part of their routine.
